Lanson is presented as a Champagne house founded in 1760 in Reims and described as one of the oldest Champagne houses. The site says its family heritage and unique know-how have been guided for more than 260 years by respect for nature, care for others, and creativity. It states that the house opened its doors in the heart of Reims as a family property whose values of openness, creativity, loyalty, and transparency remain unchanged. In 1798, Lanson adopted the Maltese Cross as its emblem in homage to the founder’s son, a member of the Hospitaller Order of Malta; this symbol, now reinvented as the Croix Lanson, still appears on the house’s bottles. The cellar books record the creation of a first rosé as early as 1833. On 4 December 1900, Lanson became one of the first Champagne houses to receive Queen Victoria’s Royal Warrant, later renewed by Queen Elizabeth II and carried for 122 years until 2022. The site also notes that Victor Lanson created an iconic cuvée called Le Black Label, and that the house later made its rosé a signature cuvée, with contemporary reinterpretations by Hervé Dantan.
