House history

The Philipponnat House traces its establishment in Champagne back to 1522, a date marked by the presence of Apvril Le Philipponnat in Ay. The family, often "Royal Mayors" of Ay thereafter, registered their coat of arms in 1696. The Philipponnats were among the first to sign sparkling champagnes from the mid-19th century. In 1910, Auguste and Pierre Philipponnat modernized the family business by creating their company and purchasing the cellars of the Château de Mareuil. Throughout this long history, the House has established a vineyard of Premier and Grand Crus of twenty hectares in the heart of Champagne and boasts 16 generations of family transmission.
