Champagne house
Maison Krug
Rue Coquebert 5, 51100 Reims, France
House history
Maison Krug says Joseph Krug founded the house in 1843 with the idea that the essence of champagne is pleasure itself. His aim was to craft the very best champagne every year regardless of climate variations. Since 1843, the house says it has made champagnes guided by a philosophy of individuality and patience, and it continues Joseph Krug’s legacy each year with a new Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée. The house is based in Reims, where it was founded, while its historic sites extend across the Champagne region.
Tasting experience
Krug states that after the harvest, its Tasting Committee tastes and appraises around 400 wines and records about 5,000 tasting notes. It says this detailed understanding of each plot’s wine enables Cellar Master Julie Cavil to carry out blending. The site also notes that Krug champagnes leaving the cellar may be enjoyed immediately or cellared for years. For visits, the contact page states that the House of Krug is not open to the general public.
