House history
The HAZARD House is presented as a family farm which, according to history, would have served as a refuge for Jean de La Fontaine in the 17th century, where he would have written "Le Coche et La Mouche". A stone from the farm bears the date "1743", indicated as the time since which the HAZARD family has resided at 5 place Gaucher in Châtillon-sur-Marne. The family, described as breeders, farmers, and cereal growers, has passed down its know-how from generation to generation. In 1970, they began planting vines on their lands that had been classified as Champagne appellation. In 1986, Philippe and Frédéric took over the family lands and continued the work undertaken. After several years of efforts and presence at wine fairs in France and Belgium, different cuvées came to light. The estate is indicated as extending over 7.10 hectares, mostly in Châtillon-sur-Marne. The text also mentions that the 1990 crisis and the ban on planting for 10 years slowed development, and that the brothers only really started marketing from 2008.
