House history
The house presents the Grumier family as a lineage of winemakers from Venteuil since the 18th century. Amand Grumier is noted as the first to produce his own Champagne in 1928. After the war, in 1945, Maurice took over a 2-hectare estate which became Champagne Maurice Grumier. Later, Guy and his wife Françoise innovated, created new cuvées in the 1980s, and expanded the vineyard from 2 to 6 hectares. Fabien, the twelfth generation of the family and the fourth generation of grower-producer, has been managing the estate since 2006 with the support of his wife Hélène, in a sustainable and environmentally respectful approach.
Tasting experience
The site provides several tasting tips. A cuvée in homage to great-grandfather Amand, vinified in small oak barrels, with regular lees stirring, unfiltered and with long bottle aging, is enjoyed very chilled as an aperitif and can also accompany foie gras, melon, blue cheeses, and chocolate desserts. The site also presents the Blancs de Noirs as the expression of the family terroir, ideal for an aperitif. Finally, the Réserve Perpétuelle is described as resulting from a meticulous blend of wines from one year and old vintages kept in barrels, in a solera started in 2005.
