Champagne J.Clément

Rue des Vignes 16, 51480 Cœur-de-la-Vallée, France

House history

The house presents a family history passed down through several generations. Martial Clément began marketing his first bottles in 1954 under the name Champagne CLEMENT-LORIOT. His son James Clément worked with him from the age of 14 and then established himself in 1975, the year Champagne J.CLEMENT was born, expanding the estate and developing champagne sales. In 2004, Cécile and Fabien took over the estate. In 2008, their house became the headquarters at 16 rue des Vignes, the offices were transferred there in 2011, then a work building was constructed in 2012 and a new reception hall in 2016. The estate also emphasizes its roots in Reuil, in the Vallée de la Marne, as well as a vine cultivation guided by respect for the environment, including vine observation, controlled grassing, organic fertilizers if necessary, and exclusively manual harvesting.

Tasting experience

The estate advises tasting champagne in a calm setting, at a moderate room temperature, to better perceive the aromas. It recommends serving the champagne well chilled, between 8 and 10°C, without overfilling the glass, and favoring a tulip-shaped glass to preserve the bubbles and release the aromas. During tasting, one should observe the bubbles and color, smell the aromas, then taste in small quantities to appreciate the balance between acidity, effervescence, and flavors. Pairings are suggested: brut as an aperitif, with seafood or hard cheese; blanc de blancs with oysters or fish; rosé with red fruit desserts or slightly spicy dishes; demi-sec with desserts. Finally, the house recommends a gentle opening of the bottle and savoring slowly.
