Champagne GABRIEL-PAGIN FILS
Rue des Remparts 4, 51160 Avenay-Val-d'Or, France
House history
Family-owned Champagne house in Avenay Val d’Or, the property has been passed down from father to son for three generations. In 1946, Roger Gabriel harvested his own vines for the first time in Avenay Val d’Or, a Premier cru classified terroir, and produced his first champagnes under his own name. In 1984, Pascal Gabriel, trained by his father in vineyard work, blending, and winemaking, took over the business with his wife Marie-Catherine to develop the house while respecting nature and Champagne expertise. In 1999, their efforts in a qualitative, sustainable, and environmental approach were recognized by the AMPELOS certification. In 2011, Aurélien, an oenologist, joined his parents after university studies on vine and wine. In 2014, the house obtained the High Environmental Value certification.
Tasting experience
The site provides tasting notes for several cuvées. For a champagne described as "Power and Generosity," the color is golden with coppery reflections. The nose develops aromas of very ripe yellow fruits, such as mirabelle plum, quince, and greengage, evolving towards scents of cherry wine and walnut wine. The palate is silky and intense, with toasted notes, followed by a persistent finish on dried fig and candied fruits. The champagne is described as powerful and generous. The site also presents a fortified wine: amber color, intense nose on prune and morello cherry with woody notes, gourmet and silky palate on honey, quince jelly, and candied fruits, to be served at 8°C, ideal as an aperitif.
