House history
The house history page says the family’s first known grape grower was Martin Briard, born in 1714 in Meuse. It adds that more than a century ago the Champagne house was created through the determination of Maurice Romelot, described as the narrator’s grandfather, who planted a vineyard in the heart of the Marne Valley to produce Pinots. Over the years, those grapes were used in blends for a unique Champagne, described as characterful, structured, and balanced, and two generations later the wine had kept its qualities and gained a reputation. The page also notes Louis Briard, born in 1803, as an alcohol distiller and son of Martin Briard, and states that the estate celebrated its first harvest in 2008 with wonderful grapes.
