House history

The Bollinger House presents itself as a family-owned Champagne house with a heritage of nearly 200 years. According to the site, the Bollinger family has been producing wines since 1829, with a powerful, refined, and complex style. The taste of the House is attributed to the importance of Pinot Noir, a demand for quality, an exceptional vineyard, and artisanal know-how passed down since 1829. The story begins with Athanase de Villermont, owner of a vast estate around Aÿ, who partnered with Paul Renaudin and Joseph Bollinger to found the champagne trading house on February 6, 1829. The site then mentions Jacques Bollinger, who took over management in 1918, developed the facilities and the vineyard, followed by Madame Bollinger, then Claude d’Hautefeuille in 1971 and Christian Bizot in 1978, who modernized the House and expanded its global distribution.

Tasting experience

The House offers tours and events focused on its heritage, historical cellars, and expertise around Pinot Noir. The tour allows visitors to discover the places where wine production takes place, from the family house at 16 rue Jules Lobet in Aÿ to the vat room and cellars. The visits highlight the terroirs, the crus, the precision of the blends, as well as the aging, maturation in the cellar, and the impact of disgorging to understand the complexity, aromatic depth, and balance of the cuvées. The site also indicates that custom visits and events are available through the 1829 program.
